After a very long time not updating the site I have finally got round to adding a NEW complete book
The book is one of Hare's rarest and hardest to find titles and bears the honour of being his very first travel guide: A Winter at Mentone (1862)
I have also just come back from a holiday in North-Eastern France where I used Hare's guide (with some difficulty due to the many changes two world wars have had on the region) but found a wonderful quote in his description of Sangatte (Just outside Calais):
10k. S.W. of Calais is Sangatte, a village on the site of a XII. c. fortress, ruined in the XV. c. Near this it is intended that the International Channel Tunnel shall have its French mouth.
This was published in 1890!
